Is Google Merchant Center Free?

Answered 20 August 2026 · Written and reviewed by Chris Krassnig

The Short Answer

Google Merchant Center is free to open and free to use. Your products can also appear in free listings across Search, Maps and YouTube at no cost. You pay only when you run ads. Scaley AI charges 4% of the ad spend it manages on top of that, and we build Scaley, so weigh that.

What Is Genuinely Free

Google's own words: Merchant Center is a free tool that helps millions of shoppers on Google discover, explore and buy your products. There is no account fee, no per-product fee and no charge for uploading your catalogue.

Free listings are real too. Google says your products can appear across Google Search, Maps, YouTube and more, for free. So a store with a clean feed and no ad budget at all can still show up. It is slower and you do not control the placement, but it costs nothing and most small stores never switch it on.

Where the Money Actually Goes

The bills start when you advertise. Shopping ads and Performance Max are paid clicks, billed through Google Ads, and that is the real cost of selling on Google. Merchant Center is just the door your products walk through on the way there.

The other cost is time. Somebody has to verify and claim the website, get shipping and tax right, and clear disapprovals when Google refuses a product. That work costs no money and plenty of hours. That is the real trade behind this question.

You Do Not Need to Buy Anything Here

Worth saying plainly, because we sell software. You can run Merchant Center for years without paying anyone but Google. On a catalogue of a few dozen products, one careful afternoon a month covers it, and no tool will beat a person who knows the products.

Scaley AI charges 4% of the ad spend it manages, with a $199 a month floor. It earns that back on the ad side, not the Merchant Center side. It tags every SKU by margin and velocity and syncs those labels daily, so campaigns can bid on profit instead of revenue. It also surfaces the waste. It writes nothing to your account until you approve it.

If your Merchant Center problem is really a feed problem, a feed management platform is the honest answer instead. DataFeedWatch calls itself a data feed management platform and says it connects to more than 2,000 channels and marketplaces. That is the job, and it is not one we do.
