What Is PPC Software?
Answered 20 August 2026 · Written and reviewed by Chris Krassnig
PPC software is any tool that sits on top of your ad accounts to manage, automate or report on them. There are four kinds: rules workbenches, bid managers, reporting tools and watchers. Scaley AI is a watcher, and it writes nothing to your account without approval. We build Scaley, so weigh that.
The Four Kinds, and the Job Each One Does
Almost every PPC tool on the market is one of these four, and knowing which one you are buying saves a wasted quarter.
A rules workbench. You write the logic, it runs on a schedule across every account. Optmyzr's own pricing page describes this as "Rule Engine-Based Custom Optimizations and Insights", with cadences listed as "Rule Engine Automations: Hourly* / Daily / Weekly / Monthly / Annually*" at its top tier. Right for an in-house team that wants to own its own logic.
A bid manager. It sets or adjusts bids toward a target you name. Worth knowing that Google now does the core of this itself, free, in every auction.
A reporting tool. It turns account data into dashboards and scheduled client reports. Right when you report to somebody else across several accounts.
A watcher. It reads the account continuously, decides what it would change, and hands you the proposal with the reasoning. Nothing fires on a rule. Nothing fires without a person.
Start With What Google Gives You Free
This is the step people skip, and it is the cheapest one.
Smart Bidding sets a bid in every auction using device, city, day of week and the text of the search. Google calls it "auction-time bidding". Performance Max decides which surface each cent goes to. Automated rules and scripts run on a schedule. Reports build multi-dimensional tables and you can "email or schedule an email of your report". Recommendations arrive with an optimization score attached.
None of that costs anything on top of your ad spend. So the honest test for any PPC tool is simple: what does it do that Google does not already do for nothing? If the answer is a nicer interface on the same feature, keep your money.
How to Pick One Without Wasting a Quarter
Answer one question honestly: what is the job you cannot get done?
If the job is "I want my own rules running everywhere", buy a workbench. Optmyzr. Scaley has no rule builder in it and we will not pretend otherwise.
If the job is "I have to send twelve branded reports a month", buy a reporting tool with white-label dashboards. Scaley has no white-label mode.
If the job is "there is more account than I can watch, and I keep finding waste too late", that is the watcher shape, and it is what Scaley AI is. It watches 24/7 and surfaces every bad search term, placement and loss-making product, with the evidence attached. It also tags every SKU by margin and velocity and syncs those tags into your Merchant Center custom labels, so bids can chase profit rather than revenue. The first audit is read-only. Nothing is written until you approve it, one item at a time. We build Scaley, so weigh that. The track record belongs to ZenoX Media, our sister Google Ads agency, which generated €200M+ in revenue for 200+ ecom brands, rated 4.8 from 38 verified client reviews on Trustpilot. Agency reviews, not Scaley product reviews.
And if the job is "somebody should tell me what to sell and at what price", no software does that. That is a senior buyer or an agency.
One more no. If you sell services or leads with no product catalogue, the Labelizer has nothing to tag and Scaley is not a fit yet. That is on our own pricing page.
